This website was first established in 2015 to provide the public with information about Owens Corning’s request to the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change (Ministry) for a site-specific air standard for hexavalent chromium, which was granted on May 6, 2016. The request was made to ensure continued compliance with modified air standards set by the Ministry on July 1, 2016. The plant’s site-specific standard will remain in effect through June 30, 2026.

Through this process, Owens Corning has committed to:

• Conducting its operations in a manner that protects the public’s and our employees’ health and safety and the environment.
• Maintaining environmental compliance in accordance with the guidance, direction and oversight of the Ministry.
• Keeping the City of Guelph and our neighbours informed of our activities, operations and reports to the Ministry.
• Working cooperatively with our neighbours and the Ministry so that we can continue our operations in the City of Guelph, contributing to the economy and the community.

In support of this commitment, Owens Corning created a Public Liaison Committee (PLC) as a forum to exchange information related to the facility with our neighbours and the broader community. The PLC, which held its organizing meeting in November 2016, meets quarterly. Agendas and summaries of the PLC meetings are posted on this website.

SITE-SPECIFIC STANDARD

Owens Corning made its site-specific standard request on March 31, 2015, in accordance with Ministry options for compliance with recently modified air standards set on July 1, 2016. Owens Corning notified residents in the vicinity of the Guelph Glass Plant of its plans through letters, public notices placed in the Guelph Mercury and Guelph Tribune, and held two Community Information Sessions. The public’s input was encouraged and all comments received before and after our request were submitted to the Ministry. Those received by the time of our submission on March 31, 2015 were included in the Owens Corning Public Consultation Report as part of our submittal. Significant dates include the following:
